Fight or flight, those two alternatives designed so long ago for survival, have not fallen by the evolutionary wayside or been modified to conform to the current scene.
To make matters worse, another pattern has been added to the basic mix. It is paralysis, the do-nothing response that stems from the simmering rage and frustration of individuals unable or unwilling to battle or flee.
The problem is that whenever there is danger, real or perceived, there is a full-alert buildup, with all kinds of chemical and physical reactions that are not present under normal circumstances.
That is fine as a response to actual threat, but if buildups persistently occur with no place to go, they turn upon themselves and vent inwardly. The result is all manner of disease, premature aging, and an earlier demise.
The demands of modern living mandate alternative, creative, less stressful ways to respond to conflict and confrontation. And if initial results are not satisfactory, it is also necessary to neutralize the effects before they get permanently stored as negatives that prey on your internals.
The Confrontation Formula gives you an entirely new perspective and method for handling those fight-flight-paralysis situations. It includes such things as: 1)
Sizing Up / Chunking Down (mode, manner, method, and metaprograms) 2) Asking Something / Saying Nothing (more effective use of questions and active silence) 3)Springing Forward / Falling Back (specific alternative choices) 4) Doing Something / Mix and Match (the principle of requisite variety) and 5) Tuning Up / Toning Down (feedback and fallback positions)
Every component of the formula is explained in the Baratt Core Lore System Manual.
